Sophia her Greek name, or Sapienta, her Latin name, meaning wisdom. From Jewish literature: “She reaches out from one end of earth to the other with full strength and orders all things
well... herself unchanging, she makes all things anew.” Early Christians called her the Holy Spirit, Gnostics called her Mother of All. The Shakers recognized her in this rhyme:
“Wisdom holds the Mother’s seat, and the Father’s helper-meet.”
